After considering a number of options to install some tie down loops to my OEM panniers, I arrived at this solution completely by chance after being dragged (very reluctantly) around the local Ikea store.
I think it looks good and works well as I like to be able to open pannier lids when on the road without taking the stuff off the top of the box before opening them.

Yes Rok Straps are fantastic, but I would be a little worried about that dude in the video, looks like he has a lot of excess strap just hanging loose and if it would get caught in his chain drive things Could get very serious very quickly. Other than that he has a very nice demonstration.
i have been using Rok Straps for many years and they work great.

Hi Saint rob, i had been looking around and trying to find some luggage brackets of some sort to fit on my panniers, just like you were. So yesterday i thought i'm going to order some, but in black, they arrived this morning, fitted them this afternoon, really pleased with the look, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The black covering on the lid i fitted a few weeks ago from my local sign makes shop. It was to hide a couple of scuff marks i'd made with my boots, getting off and on, when i was waiting for my hip replacement. PS, £3-95 delivery cost was less stressful than having to go to put up with going to the IKEA store in Leeds.

Glad you like the solution and I know what you mean about the delivery cost, not a bad shout that. I'd been dragged there for something else so it was a result when I spotted them.
A friend of mine and colleague at work has a band called the Lancashire Hotpots, check out the video of their song I fear Ikea

Great inspiration. My local IKEA in Texas has them in stock (but I may order them online because I've been in the store once and don't want to wander in that vast wilderness again).

Wise move that. Unless your dragged there kicking and screaming, by her who must be obeyed on line the way to go, without doubt.
Good news, the one time I went was with the her and it was also her first time. We agreed that neither of us wants that experience again, even if she did find a couple of things to purchase for her new office that day.

Hey Saint rob, how is this mod holding up ?
Dont have an Ikea down my ways so i was thinking of using the most robust looking towel type rail...
Did you use sealant or some sort of rubbber washers to stop or slow down water getting in ?

Cheers Cantab

I've only managed to use it once without any issues before all the virus stuff kicked off :(
I didn't use any sealant or rubber washers at all and was hoping that by having very little clearance on the screws and making sure they were fastened down tight to the top it would prevent water ingress. I guess time and weather will tell if my thoughts/hopes prove to be OK, they were based on the fact that my 2003 GSA didn't have any such seal on similar tie down hooks and they didn't leak. If they do start to leak, I'll first try cutting up an old inner tube and making my own rubber washers and use them on the inside underneath the washers, before going anywhere near silicone sealer.
Can you not mail order them from Ikea, that would be a better option than visiting the store in person - It's one shop I hate visiting as summed up HERE by some of my colleagues in work, or are there just no stores in NZ?

Good idea using old bike tube material.

I love this solution and need to do this to mine.

Just a few question, did you drill through the plastic layer under the lid ? And Is there any support beneath the lid or just screws and washers?
Speak of which, could you please show me some pics of the installation?

Thank you very much for the idea.

I did indeed drill through the plastic layer, you may need to remove a little of the "Honeycomb" reinforcement to get the screws through so that they sit flush/straight underneath. I didn't use any extra support underneath and I've not had any issues at all in use.

For those of us who don't speak Ikeaese, what do I search for on their website?
My Google-Fu is weak tonight.
The 3rd image on post #1 shows you what you are after, there are 2 or 3 different lengths but the packaging does indicate the length that you need as well you might need to zoom in a little though.

You can find everything you need to do this at Home Depot.

Here is a slight variation. I ordered these little stainless steel cleats of “Wish” website. Super inexpensive (got 10 for about the same price as on SW-Motech. I fastened them with stainless steel 8-32 screws with a small rubber “O” ring to ensure a seal. The backing plates need to be made individually as the offset from the side of the lid is different on each cleat.

The bags are a double ended bike packing bag which is super weather proof and expandable for need with both ends rollable. The bag is attached using a river rafting strap (cam lock) which in my experience how’s much better over rough track than bungee cords.

This option increases the number of hold down bolts by 2x from the rail option. One just needs to remember the OEM panniers have a total weight load maximum.
