I've never used the kill switch to shut off the bike

Of all the bikes I've owned, I've never done that. Always just shut it off with the key. Never had a problem. Is this unusual behavior? Do most riders use the kill switch?

I picked up the habit of using the side stand. Leave it in gear, put the stand down, engine off. I don't think it really matters how you turn it off, just don't forget to remove the key. 'Cuz if you don't, you'll return to a dead battery. :oops:

I use the system as it was designed to be used. I.E., the kill switch, then the key.

In the old days I did own a POS motorcycle with a crappy kill switch and used only the key. Easier than hoping the kill switch would work that day. I sold that bike pretty quickly.

I don't think it really matters much. But ask yourself why you're doing it that way? The reason is likely based on something that no longer applies.

Almost always use the kill switch on the Super Tenere, read somewhere that using the KS eases the likelihood of a hard start happening.

Prior to this bike, always off by the key.

I always thought that kill switch was just there for emergency.
And if you would be in a situation where you need to pull both cluth and front brake, but also needed to stop engine.

I need proof:)

As I said before, I don't think it matters much. :rolleyes: That you don't understand a linear procedure and why it's considered proper method of use is fine. It's your choice to do so.

Do as I say...use the kill switch, not as I do...always the key.

I think one theory of KS being better is for a broken throttle cable that leaves the bike wide open and accelerating. Great to be able to reach over with your thumb and kill the bike and not need to turn the key. If you have the muscle memory build up of using the KS it's a no-brainer. I get it...still I use the key.

I definitely do use the kill switch before turning on the key if I'm only checking mileage or not planning to start the engine in this cycle. It prevents the fuel pump from running and setting you up for a possible hard start.

If I kill it with the switch, I forget to use the key. Then my headlights stay on and I forget. I always try to use the key.

Among other reasons, I do this because I often record the odo at the end of a ride or re-set GPS data. When getting gas, I often turn the key on, record odo on gas receipt and put that away before turning the kill switch to run and starting the bike. I don't want or need the fuel pump running while I do this.

And please, for the love of god, go on some trips! This bike wasn't meant for you to do day rides on. Buy a scooter and enjoy life if you're always ending up in your garage after a ride.

Situation dependent. Sometimes I want the lights to stay on when I kill it so Ill do it off the switch. Mostly backing into a parking spot. Also pulling into my garage at the end of the day I usually do a test of the blinkers and brake light after I park so makes it easy.

But when I park in a non secure location I 100% use the key to make sure my dumb ass doesn't leave it in the ignition with the lights on. Did it once at the shooting range 5 miles from pavement.....Learned how to push start a motorcycle that day!

Eric, I do not know if there are differences in the models, but in mine (2018 ES), with the switch turned OFF, if you turn the key to ON, you feel that the fuel pump is activated,
and stops after 2 seconds, when it reaches the working pressure
I read that the kill switch, is a safety stop, in case that the throttle is locked (full), so as not necessary to release the handlebar to turn the key off....

I do both , probably kill switch most of the time , some times use the key just because.... I always remove key after kill switch or key ….. its kinda like which side of the toilet paper works best for you...
