A More Affordable Flash Option?

I recently had mine flashed, super fast turnaround.
Much smoother throttle response, bit more getup-n-go, didn’t notice a big difference in engine braking.

I got the flash Anthony recommended. It's just right on the engine braking and got rid of the jerky throttle. Mine still has a 2000 rpm surge that I HATE.

I had mine done recently on my "new" 2015. Smoother throttle and engine braking. The shipping and return time was excellent. Communication with Anthony via PM was excellent.

Not as much improvement as I saw on my 2013 but still a very worthwhile upgrade for me.

Hello guys! lot of messages on a post from 2013. I'm very interesting in flash my 2012 s10.

I live in south florida, hollywood, there is a place where I can take my s10? I do not trust almost any mechanic/dealer in 300 miles radius...

Thanks!

great to see so many positive reviews!
has anyone been able to try the reflash long term over many miles?
I want to do it but I am doing a big tour and im concerned that tweaking the ecu is not worth the risk to be stranded in the sticks should it backfire... thoughts?

So the jerky throttle action isn't just me? I thought it was my lack of fly by wire and/or actual horsepower causing me to feel like a friggen noob when riding my '16 with 3000 miles on the clock.

Sorry I did not read the whole thread. In the original post three modes were mentioned. How is he getting mode 2S?

Not just you, although the "snatchy" throttle is not as bad as my Honda ST1300 was. Several miles, and your hand should re-calibrate.

The 2S mode he is talking about, I believe is the idle map. That is accessed by the clutch switch mod (shorting out the two wires at the clutch lever). There are a number of people, at least with the Gen 1, that use that mod as it bypasses the gear restrictions that are more pronounced in the Gen 1. Modifying that map would give you a third map.

Don't Be Stupid, You Moron!!! Just do it!!! You won't regret it!!! Stop living with it when there is a solution and its easy to do. That's my short review. Read on if you want the rest of my thoughts.

The rest...
I must have went back and forth in my mind every time I rode the bike. I 'heard' and read about the abrupt throttle/snatchiness before I purchased the bike. I sat on, demoed, reviewed, watched, read anything and everything I could before I plunked down my money. How bad could it be? When I demoed the bike, I was so excited to be on a Tenere, I didn't even notice. There's a lot you don't notice in an excited state of mind. 8 months later I bought my S10. Rode it in Touring mode and that's pretty much were that switch stayed. I'd try Sport just to see if I could be smoother with my brain and hand. Nope, back to Touring for thousands of miles. Try it again. Nope. I bought a great motorcycle and I'm kind of only using half of it. (This is my thought process and no I'm not clinically crazy, Lol) When I rode in Sport mode, I looked like I just started riding. Head jerking back and forth, hand cramped on grip so any input was positive and not jerky. Mind concentrating on smoothness as if I was tryin to pick up the hottest girl in the world by not stumbling on words. Off throttle was so abrupt I thought I let an anchor out the back of the bike. Back on throttle in such little increments so I wouldn't upset the bike. (This is mostly low speed and usually in the first 3 gears. This is not as pronounced as speed increases) How about over bumpy roads that need to be repaved, construction areas where they are putting in new whatever under the road? You get the idea because you've been there. Now, I'll go out on a limb and give major props to those that handle the abruptness, 'snatchy throttle response and heavy engine braking of the standard mapping...#19,' and those that just deal with it because it costs money. I get it. I contemplated for almost a year. Now I have no affiliation with anyone or any company that flashes the ECU. This is not for them, this is for you. I threw this out there on another thread and I'll throw this out there here. Take my flashed stock Tenere for a ride while I ride your Tenere. We have some great roads here in Central New Jersey, believe it or not, and see for yourself. No bullshit, no scam, no attorneys, no nothing except riding. Nothing to lose. If you have good roads where you're from, I can visit you. (Within a good day of riding) You don't even have to buy lunch. I ride, plain and simple. I wouldn't consider myself an expert rider but have done a verified by the IBA #71169, SS1000 in August on the Tenere. I also have a 1997 GoldWing that I take my 77 year young Mother on 2-3 hour rides when its warmer out. (search, Oma's Goldwing Rides on Advrider or Google) We can talk about each others resume if and when the time comes. I came off an 2004 DL1000 and put 50,000+ miles on in 4 years.
The Flash is for real. Touring is what it already is, except smoother. I rode it for the first 3 days after the flash in strictly that mode and I was good. If that's what it was, I was already happy with what I purchased. Now to Sport mode...I'd be lying if I didn't think it was better than the stock or flashed Touring mode. I can now keep it in Sport mode, after ripping some back roads with twisties, ride into a town that has a strict 25mph speed limit and not buck back and forth with small throttle inputs to maintain the speed limit. I could go on but I can't believe you're still reading this. Xcimation's post in this thread was the last straw for me to pull the trigger and I personally told him that. PM me, call me, ask me anything about the bike after or before the flash and I'll try to answer. I'd almost put up a #GoFundMeFlashMyTenere so people that are on the fence don't have to worry about the financial investment. I'm not that tech savvy. Worse case....Un Flash it. Duh. Thank you for taking the time to read this, Tom.

I actually like the performance of this bike bone stock. While I ride it mostly in touring mode, sport mode is nothing short of amazing!! Some say the 1st three gears are limited. I don't notice at all. It screams right into the redline and front wheel is very light the first few gears (in both modes).

Where some guys don't like the engine braking, I love it!! I can see where in a deep sand wash the sport mode can be used to control slowing with just the throttle without touching the brakes. For those that don't understand or know how to use the engine braking I can see where they would want to get a reflash. I OTOH embrace the engine braking and use it to my advantage.

IMO, if you want true performance then you are going to put the bike on the dyno and spend some some money doing it right. FWIW I have had my last bike dyno tuned and there is nothing better than having a near perfect stoichiometric ratio dialed in for a bike that will run really well throughout the RPM range.

For now I'm just going to enjoy my over 40mpg and near perfect performance from what the Yamaha engineers designed the bike for.

A "More Affordable Flash Option" is learning to use the stock configuration. Anything more will cost some dyno machine time with a good tuner......

This may just be me but I usually run it in sport mode but the other day I went tour mode. I kept stalling it at stop lights.
I was almost home so I didn’t determine if it was me or the flash.....?

I pretty much never use T mode but when I do it doesn't stall. Might want to ping your flash provider.

I completely support you on this. I am coming from FJR1300 and have to say that ST is nothing short in power and dynamics even in T mode. Although I have just ridden couple of hundreds of km-s so far and the engine is still very tight, the power is more than adequate and throttle very smooth. Not a single stall since the very first day. Perfect effortless riding!
