Yoshimura muffler just too loud - suggestions?

I bought the bike (2016 ES) with Arrow headers and Yoshimura can. Breathes nicey, but it's just too damn loud for me. I've repacked the can, but it didn't really help that much. Anybody have a mod they can suggest to quiet that thing down? I'd consider trading it for a stock or different, quieter aftermarket muffler. I like a little noise, but I'm not a Harley rider, and don't have a need to wake up an entire forest when meandering through dirt and fire roads. Thanks.

Is the baffle in the muffler? If not, maybe that could quiet it down some. On a previous bike I had I fitted a baffle for a different bike that worked in the aftermarket pipes I had and it made a tad of difference. The problem with quieting down your exhaust is slight loss of performance. Nothing harmful to the engine. Just if it slight (might not even be noticeable) loss of power. Others who have had the Yoshimura exhaust and have tried different exhaust beside stock might be able to chime in for comparison.

I had a yoshi with no baffle and arrow header and yes,it was way too loud. I now have an arrow muffler and it toned it down just right for me because it's a larger can. The Akrapovic would be the quietest aftermarket choice . The stock muffler would be the cheapest route and might get you where you want to be with the header

If removed the catalyst is when more "noisy" gets, more than "sound"
you should check that he has it

In my opinion, jlq's graph says it all. For what aftermarket exhaust cost....and the performance gains obtained....the investment/return ratio just isn't there for me. And the sound....I don't mind the Tenere's note. But, It's not "sexy". Can't be made "sexy". Not enough cylinders in my opinion. Also like jlq implies, there is a difference between noise, and sound.

I don't think the Yoshimura can ever had baffles. Isn't it supposed to be a straight-through pipe, with packing around the perforated inner pipe.?. Either way, way to freakin' loud. I'll have to check out the Akrapovic or even stock. The previous owner got all happy trying to increase HP, adding the new headers and then the Yoshi can. Also flashed his ECU. I installed a PCV on it, so can tweak as needed after I replace the Yoshi. The bike stock has all the HP I need. It's not for racing, and want the roll-on/off to be smooth as possible.

You can always just get a baffle from yoshi as long as the prior owner didn't bugger up the end like I did to mine. If the threaded hole in the bottom end of the outlet is still there your good to go. If there is no hole it might be my old rs4 that I sold a member here. The screw is still in the end but ground flush and looks like there's nothing there. I held my old baffle up to mine and it did quiet it down a lot but got too hot to hold when riding LOL!

I have a first edition of the yosh silencer. The sound insert does quiet the note. Without the insert not only its loud but it will melt the rear fender, found out the hard way.

Couple years ago Harley Davidson paid a huge fine for selling loud aftermarket pipes (millions of $$$$) since then Harley dealers have quit selling the stuff and have actually been able to void warranty on any Harley Davidson with loud pipes. After all that happened I am pretty surprised anyone would even consider putting loud pipes on any motorcycle for street use.
But yes there are still all kinds of Harley’s running around with illegal pipes and most cops seem to simply ignore them because they don’t have the decibel measuring devices to prove they are illegal. But for some reason around here if you get caught off road with those same illegal pipes the DNR officers have the decibel measuring devices to prove the pipes are illegal and are very anxious write the ticket right there.

Whaaaat? Loud pipes don't save lives?! That's what all the HD guys tell me. Of course, my kid's R6 had a stupid loud Two Brothers system. Didn't stop him from getting hit. He's ok now, but the R6 was D.R.T. He has another R6, with the same pipe, and we make him ride behind us.

when i removed the db killer, i went out for a tour, as you can see in the picture. I liked the SOUND, very, very much...THICK, as a Peterbilt.
I´m still looking for an tailpipe that i liked, and sends the heat down

An aftermarket can only makes noise. Run the Arrow header with the stock can and you'll get a nice power increase while the exhaust note remains reasonable.

On one of these cold, dreary, endless winter days I was messing around with a different cap. I found that when you put the cap on it didn’t have the deep ( not loud) sound that I liked with the baffle out.

One prototype I fabbed up. F5DE8BAD-0B79-4ACC-A127-77755E2E0D2C.jpeg

I have since ordered a delkavic oval 14” and will see how I like it. Losing 10 lbs while getting a sound that is not like an agricultural vehicle is what I am looking for. I’m not really after any performance gains.
