A further development in this category is Honda making more dirt-oriented mods to the 2019 CB500X including a 19" front wheel. While I doubt these changes will raise it's off-road game that much, the T7 is going to be further squeezed from the bottom by this bike as well as the new KTM's from the top. And the two-year tease followed by an 18+ mo-in-the-future ship date, all for a bike that is anything but revolutionary and uses an off-the-shelf engine, is simply inexcusable..... it makes me want to ignore the bike regardless of how good it might be (and it doesn't look like it will be that good regardless).

a friend of mine has a new 1290 , been asking to go for a ride so he can show off all the power.... my neighbor has a 701 husky , 500 exc-f, and a 350 sx , its like living next to a drug dealer.

Yamaha is going to miss out on the hype of introduction by delaying availability. Meanwhile competitors will have time to react to any perceived performance, feature or pricing advantages. By the time it is actually available folks ready to buy now will have committed to something else and this will be a ho hum event when they are finally in the dealer showrooms. I'm not a marketing expert but this seems like a dumb approach. Perhaps there are production limitations, but with the bike being produced both in Japan and Europe that seems unlikely.

You're right. I waited for two years for Honda to bring the 1200X to the states. I finally gave up on them and bought the S10. I'm not unhappy at all with the S10, but if Honda had the 1200X here in 2013 I would have probably bought it. Now I have the S10 decked out to suit me and there is no way I would take a big hit selling it and put a bunch more cash out there to buy the 1200X. Honda missed out.

Compare the T7 to the KTM’s electronics package. The KTM is light years ahead ‘today’. The dash is total 1990 for the new T7. Everyone in the industry is going to a color high-def dash. A fancy dash is not needed to have a good time out on your bike. But when the ‘money’ is the same, and the competition has all the new ‘better’ bells and whistles, that’s what most buyers will gravitate towards. In two years, this bike will be old news. There will be tons of competition and Yamaha better get on the ball.
I was hoping it would have some of the cool bits that we have been seeing in all the videos. They have replaced all that with plastic. Along with a dash/info to rival KTM in the same segment.
In my pea-brain, humble opinion they have failed my expectations.
I’m quite sure this is fake. But will post ‘internet speculation’.

9,595 Euros would be slightly under $10,000, which for a French bike sounds about right.

I think the proof will come with the early deliveries when people get to see what it is truly like to ride.

Still it is disappointing how much they homogenized this for mass production.

Dash aside, the 18 month release is a shot in one foot.
43mm forks are a bit of a joke now in days for a 21/18 bike labelled as do it all...jump stuff etc... that's a shot in the other foot.
I bet you it will be 11-12 USD, and 12.5-14 Canukistan dollars.
By 2020 everyone will have something better.

Put the bong down yamaha...they put out some amazing bikes in the last 10 yrs, but this is a slap in the face. But hey, at least they have the three wheeled idiot mobile for 20 large, available now.

I love horsepower as much, and maybe even more, as the next guy/gal. But, maybe I like reliability MORE than most guys/gals. Because, having the "fastest" or the "strongest" is a NICE feeling that you can brag about. But, when you're riding your bike, and your buddies is broken or in the shop, it's an AWESOME feeling. I'll choose reliability, with good performance, over speed every time. And by the way, just because the other guys car/bike is faster, doesn't mean he can spank you.

Yep...agreed. I'm ofter in out of the way places, and don't want to be worried by the BS of an unreliable bike. That's why I picked the AT over a 1090. Besides, how often does someone use 100% of the power? Never. I might have to twist a bit harder than a more powerful bike, but it's not like I'm riding a moped.
95% of the time it's 70% rider, and 30% bike.

It's too bad. I could see me getting the itch to replace the DR650 and the T7 would be a natural choice. Not sure I can keep from scratching for 2 more years. I'm guessing not.

I've been ready to buy this bike for at least the last year. Love the Super Tenere, and at 150,000 miles, it's not dead yet! But looking for something lighter to go some different places... Wasn't impressed with the prototype from an ADV bike perspective, but heard something from Yamaha that these things would be fixed in the production version. So I was waiting for the launch of a bike with a 19 litre tank, comfortable ergonomics and some luggage capacity. Looks like they missed the mark with all of those those things. Weight is a bit more than I would have hoped, but would be ok - if it had the 19l tank. The ergos are adjustable, maybe the seat needs changing, but the 16l tank is unforgivable if they expect ADV riders to buy it. They claim 350km range, but looking at real-world numbers from the MT-07, 310km seems more likely. And if conditions are tough it could be less than that. Not enough... and even if it's cheap (if the €9500 number is correct it's not bad), but the time you've given it the full adv treatment, including extra fuel, it's not going to be cheap any more.

On the plus side, by the time it get to the US you should have plenty of aftermarket stuff available to do the required upgrades!

The FZ07 motor is frugal. Riding like a muppet in town, I got 4.1-4.5L. With the extra fuel, add a rotopax..there 20L capacity.
My gripes are around the crap components. The fuel or the 450lb weight is not that bad really for a 700cc twin.

I have had the ST1200ES for almost 4 years now, and it is a great bike, but heavy.
For street riding at 160 lbs ,very little two up, I don’t really need it.
My friends, once they retired, dropped the heavy bikes.

There will be a time , that I will trade the ST for something like this that weighs only 430lbs, that is 150 lb s less than the ST.

I guess that I don’t understand all the whinging about a bike that nobody has even ridden yet, outside of Yamaha sponsored riders. Sure, it’s not perfect but I have to think that they put together a pretty decent machine. It’s never gonna be a KTM, but it’s probably going to be a solid and bulletproof wee beastie. Everyone on this forum has or had experience with another roundly criticized Yamaha, and yet the love for them is strong. I hope that the new 700 lives up to the expectations we have had for it’s big brother.

Although I was hoping to see one THIS YEAR!

Don't get me wrong, I think it will be a great bike for a lot of people, especially if the price is right. Just that I think they missed the opportunity to produce a near-perfect ADV bike. For example, I don't need to ride it to know the tank is too small. There are plenty of times I would have been stranded on the Super Tenere if the tank range had been only 350km. And 350km is probably the best case, being more off-road focused, it's going to be taken off-road more (duh). What's the fuel consumption going to be like in sand or mud? It's always possible to carry extra fuel, but it's a hassle and the bike already has pretty limited carrying capacity.

They are going to lose a chunk of the market just because they couldn't add 3-4 litres more fuel capacity. Most other things could be fixed pretty easily, but not that. KTM 790 has 20 litres, why do they know what is needed, and Yamaha didn't?

what criticized yamaha are you referring to?

regarding the T7, IMO, they missed the mark.
Nowhere near concept bike design.
Zero attempts made to centralize weight. Fuel is up high, see KTM 790 attempt at building a tank.
The suspension is wimpy.
Release date is a joke.
Motor will be ok with the extra weight (in comparo to the MT07)
Dash is basic at best.
It's the new and improved KLR:eek:

what criticized yamaha are you referring to?

I was referring to the Super Ten. Just recently it got dogged big time in a 6 bike comparison on Motorcycle.com. That has always been the case with the bike, and yet here we are. I understand that you’ve moved on but you had plenty of time with one and seemed to enjoy despite the criticism. I did too and actually miss it a lot more than I thought I would.
